Creating a National Inventory – Grassroots needs our help
Each year Grassroots provide data to the UK National Inventory of livestock breeds. The most recent data was published on 14th May. UK Farm Animal Genetic Resources (FAnGR) breed inventory results 2025 statistics release - GOV.UK This year, Grassroots Systems have been asked by Defra to create a national inventory of UK Native breeds cryogenically stored materials. It is hoped that this information will be used to begin a conversation about the possible need for a UK National Biobank of Native Livestock Breeds, in parallel to the one held for plant crop varieties. Joan Alexander, Fourmerk Highland Ponies
We are deeply saddened to learn that Joan Alexander of Fourmerk Highland Ponies passed away peacefully on Monday night. Joan who was a life member of the Society and bred Highland ponies under the Fourmerk prefix was a true ambassador for the breed. Her passion and dedication to the Highland Pony was evident to all who knew her. Our thoughts are very much with Joan's daughter Vicki, grandchildren Alexander and Eilidh and the rest of the family at this difficult time. A memorial service to celebrate Joan's life will be held at Gargunnock Parish Church on Tuesday 7th July 2026 at 11.15am. Family flowers only please. A collection will be…
