The Launch of the In Hand Awards Scheme – Highland Pony Society

The Launch of the In Hand Awards Scheme

The HPS Performance Awards Schemes in Scotland and England & Wales have been running very successfully for around 40 years. Council is delighted now to be introducing a UK wide In Hand Scheme running along broadly similar lines.

Whenever members are out and about competing in hand, they will earn points which accumulate to grand totals for the year. We are very grateful to all the donors of 13 perpetual trophies which have been presented:

Overall - Alan and Carolyn Munro, Loandhu Highland Ponies

Reserve - Amanda Fairclough, Shawgreen Highland Ponies

Best Mare - Sarah Macintosh, Redleys Highland Ponies

Best Stallion - The Bonars, Bowmore Highland Ponies

Best Gelding - Wendy Bridges, Holmedown Highland Ponies

Best Veteran - Amy Whidburn and The Whidburn Family

Best Homebred - Shona Adams, The Auchengarth Trophy

Overall Youngster - Joan Alexander, Fourmerk Highland Ponies

Highest Placed 3yr old - Catherine and Mike Taylor, Perburn Highland Ponies

Highest Placed 2yr old - Isy Bergius, Over Langshaw Highland Ponies

Highest Placed 1yr old - Liz Mangham, Potterton Park Ponies

Junior Handler - Shirley Clarke, Kershope Highland Ponies

Best Newcomer - Shirley Clarke, Kershope Highland Ponies

Presentations will take place early in 2022 and rosettes will be awarded to all who return cards.

Anne Owen-Walker has taken on the role of Secretary of this Scheme and cards are available from the Society. We understand that in 2021, the opportunity to compete In Hand may be a bit less than usual so the cost of the cards is only £5. You can buy one in the online shop, 'Merchandise', 'Miscellaneous' section.
