Owner’s Terms and Conditions
Forms: A properly completed Nomination Form will be required for every mare. These should be sent prior to arrival of the mare.
Health Tests: All mares must be swabbed for CEM and blood tested for EVA within 30 days prior to arrival and the certificates forwarded to the Stud. Mares will not be allowed onto the Stud without prior receipt of satisfactory test results.
Vaccinations: All mares must have a current Equine Influenza/Tetanus vaccination. If the vaccination falls due during the mare’s stay at stud, we will vaccinate as a matter of course, with cost to your account.
Passports: It is a legal requirement for all mares to travel with a valid passport. All mares should have their ULN (Unique Life Number) in their passports, as well as up-to-date Equine Flu and Tetanus Toxoid vaccination records.
Farrier: All mares to have their hind shoes removed prior to arrival at the Stud.
Worming: Mares will be wormed on arrival and the owner will be charged accordingly.
Vet Treatments & Fees: All expenses incurred for visits, examinations and medicines are payable direct to University of Edinburgh. Breeding packages should also be paid for in advance direct to University of Edinburgh. In the event that emergency veterinary attention is necessary, all efforts will be made to contact the owner prior to treatment. However, if the owner is not available for whatever reason, University of Edinburgh will administer the treatment they consider to be most appropriate and in the best interests of the mare and/or foal and charge the owner accordingly.
Care of Visiting Mares: We reserve the right to feed or stable grass mares as they consider most beneficial to the care of the mare. Mares will receive every possible care, attention and supervision, but no responsibility can be taken for accident or disease. All mares are tried and served at their owners’ risk and no responsibility can be accepted for injury, damage or loss. All mares will be served by natural covering.
Payment: All fees must be paid in full before the mare leaves. Mare owners who send a third party to collect their mare must make arrangements to pay in advance of collection.
Insurance: The Stud accepts no responsibility for visiting mares and does not carry insurance cover. It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that their mare is adequately insured.
