Hot Weather Recommendations
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Strathallan, tomorrow, for our annual Breed Show.
As you will have seen from the forecast, we are expecting high temperatures. Luckily, the show field has a water supply but it will be in demand, so we are asking all exhibitors bring water too, as well as buckets and sponges.
To ensure welfare of ponies and exhibitors, the following recommendations are in place.
- Keep ponies and people hydrated throughout the day. For ponies who don’t like to drink from a bucket, consider soaked hay or bringing wet feeds.
- Bring/use fly spray/bug repellents for ponies and people
- Sun cream and hats are recommended for all who are attending the show
- Mare & foal pens will be positioned with as much shade as possible. Please ensure all ponies in pens have access to water.
- All exhibitors are advised that they are permitted to show without jackets in all sections.
- For BSPS Training Stakes, long sleeves and body protectors must be worn, however competitors can return to the ring for prize giving without body protectors, if they choose.
- For Driving Section, competitors are permitted to discard aprons and jackets.
- Working Harness competitors are recommended to dress “weather appropriate” for the hill.
- Warm up should be kept to a minimum.
- Riders are requested not to sit on ponies for prolonged periods while waiting for classes and try to keep ponies in the shade where possible.
- Grooms are permitted to bring buckets of water into rings for drinking and sponging off.
- Judges will be mindful of the heat in performance classes.
- No classes are to be held for exhibitors competing in another ring to ensure smooth running of the day.
We would like to wish everyone an enjoyable and successful day.
