Handsome gelding who is the yard favourite. A late September 2018 foal, approx. 14.1 hh.
Dam – Fionnalaigh of Achnacarry
Sire – Rannoch of Achnacarry
Handsome well bred cream dun Highland pony, late September 2018 foal standing approx. 14.1hh. Major has all the attributes to do well in most disciplines, being very true to type and a quality pony. He is also a real character and yard favourite, and loves to chat.
He has done lots of in hand ground work, horse agility obstacles (nothing phases him), long reining and walking out in hand prior to be being started under saddle by the well known horseman Guy Robertson in early 2023, even taking part in one of Guys Young Horse demos where he decided to have a nap on the floor at the end of his slot! His education has been continued since with schooling at home, pole work, lunging, hacking out in groups and alone, and obstacle clinics. He has even supported his current owners very nervous and novice daughter start riding on the lunge, solo in the school and on lead rein hacks, being an absolute saint looking after her. When hacking out alone he takes his confidence form his rider so needs a confident rider to continue this part of his education. He is the type of pony that thrives on being busy. He is currently ridden in a snaffle, having been ridden bitless in a side pull as part of his foundation education. He can be ridden in a treed or treeless saddle depending on the riders preference.
He is good with the farrier, has been barefoot, but currently has front shoes on due to hard ground and very stoned tracks. Good with the dentist and vet. He thinks being groomed and clipped is the best thing ever, and will happily stand to be pampered, no issues with applying sprays and creams etc. He travels well and is good to load. He will live in our out. Has been in individual paddocks and group turn out with issues. Lives on fresh air and is never sick or sorry. He has seen all large farm machinery up close, and loves everything with an engine, and power tools. He’s used to dogs, chickens and children playing, running, kicking balls, flying kites and riding bicycles. No bad habits when stabled or turned out, never been lame or had laminitis, no sweet itch.
He is currently having a period of professional schooling with Verity Franks (BD competitor and coach) to consolidate and build on his foundation, and has been jumping with one of her team showing potential for native working hunter ponies. He is absolutely ready for someone to get him out and about this year in any sphere.
This is an extremely sad sale as a result of family commitments (illness) and work commitments. He was meant to be the current owners pony for the rest of her ridden career, but sadly she no longer has the time to dedicate to this wonderful pony and he needs to be busy. As her commitments and time constraints are only going to increase over the next year she has decided it is in Majors best interest to find him a new best friend for life.
