Basil is seeking an experienced highland home.

He is good to shoe, catch, load, groom, clip and up to date with dentist, worming management and vaccinations. He is easy to muck out too. On hacks he is not phased by dogs, cyclists, runners, children, buggies and most traffic. He isn’t so keen on loud rattling noises from trailers or little birds flying out of bushes though. I think he just wants to check we’re paying attention!! Tends to react with a small side step/jump, then moves forward as normal. He also has mild sweet itch which is currently managed well with fly mask, fly rug and kill itch. 

Basil is not suitable for novices or those unfamiliar with Highland ponies because he can be strong on the ground from time to time- especially when he spies some luscious looking grass and uses all his strength/weight to get it!! He also sees beginner riders a mile off and doesn’t always understand what they are asking of him. The latter has happened with my daughter unfortunately which is the main reason for his sale. She wants to try everything but struggles to get the basic gaits out of Basil because she is still learning so not always getting the aides correct. 

Although Basil and my daughter (who is also autistic) are not the best fit for riding, she has become a little obsessed with everything to do with horses and riding, thanks to Basil. She really has had an enjoyable therapeutic/loving relationship and introduction to horse ownership with him. 

He just really needs a consistent competent rider riding him regularly now because when ridden by me he moves well and has promise. 

My daughter and I have had Basil for 3.5years and he really is our best boy. We will be sorry to see him go but feel it time for a change as well as allowing Basil to meet his potential in a more suitable home with more time to train.
